GUIDE
Favini Sumo Paper
Favini Sumo is a through-dyed ultra-thick board made in black and white. Its millimetre-scale substance and clean exposed edge make the material itself part of the design.

THROUGH-DYED
Colour runs consistently through the thickness of the board.
MILLIMETRE SCALE
Favini lists 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 mm manufacturer options.
BLACK OR WHITE
The current manufacturer range is deliberately focused.
WHAT THE MATERIAL IS
A board designed to show its thickness.
Sumo is supplied as an ultra-thick graphic board rather than created by bonding ordinary business-card sheets. Favini describes the colour as distributed through the material, so the exposed edge belongs naturally to the face colour.
The manufacturer currently presents black and white boards in 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 mm thicknesses for applications including business cards. Those are manufacturer options, not a promise that every thickness is held by Offsetcards at all times.
Availability, minimum quantity and finishing compatibility are confirmed against the current workshop stock and the selected specification before an order is accepted.

WHAT IT CHANGES
A card read as an object.
Sumo makes thickness visible without needing a contrasting core or an edge coating.
01
Monolithic colour
The face and edge read as one black or white volume rather than as separately bonded coloured layers.
02
Tactile restraint
The substantial board can carry a minimal mark while still feeling deliberate before any finish is noticed.
03
Strong foil contrast
Opaque hot foil can create clean contrast on black Sumo where conventional transparent ink would behave differently.
WHEN TO USE IT
Best when the material is part of the identity.
Sumo suits concise cards that make room for the board: a wordmark, name, contact details and one carefully chosen tactile process. The thickness should support the brand rather than compete with a crowded layout.
Black and white surfaces require different colour strategies. White gives more freedom for printed colour; black often depends on opaque foil, blind detail or another tested specialist process.
CONSIDER BEFORE CHOOSING
- The intended thickness must suit the selected printing and finishing equipment.
- Transparent inks do not become opaque simply because the board is premium or dark.
- Fine impression, large solids and two-sided work require production review.
- Current stock, sourcing time and minimum quantity must be confirmed for the job.

ARTWORK PREPARATION
Let the board do some of the work.
Keep foil, blind impression and printed elements on separate named layers. Clean vector artwork is preferred for the specialist processes most often paired with Sumo.
Do not use a screen preview of black paper to predict ink opacity or foil reflection. Supply the intended colour references and allow us to review line weight, coverage and two-sided pressure against the chosen thickness.
FINISHED WORK
Black and white, interpreted differently.
The focused range makes process, composition and surface contrast more important—not less.
