THE DESIGN REQUIREMENT

Turn a technical visual language into something tactile.

The blue-and-black artwork carries a precise, engineered character. Raised clear UV was used to make selected areas respond to both touch and changing light without introducing another printed colour.

Three kinds of contrast

The matt laminated base absorbs light. Raised UV adds gloss and height. Blue edge paint then carries the face colour into the profile of the card.

THE CONSTRUCTION

Two printed Velvet sheets create the base for finishing.

The project archive records digital printing on two 350 gsm Velvet sheets. They were matt laminated and joined before the raised layer and painted edge completed the card.

Why the matt base matters

A restrained surface makes the clear gloss easier to read. The raised effect remains transparent, so it changes reflection and touch while allowing the printed blue and black beneath it to remain visible.

PRODUCTION EXECUTION

The UV mask had to register to the printed artwork.

The raised areas were supplied as a distinct mask and aligned to the printed base. After the face finishing, the card stack was prepared for a blue painted edge that visually connects both sheets.
