THE DESIGN REQUIREMENT
Build a playful identity from contrast and hidden detail.
The card needed to carry a busy games-and-puzzles identity without turning the black surface into ordinary full-colour print. Three foils divide the visual work: red for energy, white for clarity and black for detail that appears only as the light changes.
Two levels of attention
Red and white communicate immediately. Glossy black pattern sits closer to the board colour, rewarding a second look without weakening the main information.
THE COLOUR DECISION
Black foil is visible because its surface differs from the paper.
The board and black foil share a colour family, but they handle light differently. Sumo Nero remains soft and matt; the foil reflects. That contrast lets small game-related symbols become a background layer rather than another loud colour.
Why white matters
White pigmented foil remains opaque on black board, keeping small contact information readable while red foil carries the more expressive parts of the identity.
PRODUCTION EXECUTION
Three separate dies, three press passes and controlled registration.
Red, white and glossy black were prepared as independent vector masks. Each foil was applied separately, so spacing and registration had to be considered before tooling rather than corrected as if this were a single printed image.
